VP Shettima to Lead IPI Nigeria Conference 2025

The Vice President, Kashim Shettima, will headline this year’s International Press Institute (IPI) Nigeria Annual Conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM).

The 2025 Conference and AGM is scheduled for 2–3 December at the NICON Luxury Hotel, Central Business District, Abuja.

Dignitaries expected include the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Oluwatosin Ajayi; Professor of Mass Communication and Registrar of Baze University, Abiodun Adeniyi; and former State Chief of Protocol to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, Ambassador Lawal Kazaure.

Prominent journalists and international media leaders, such as IPI Global Executive Director Scott Grifen, Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris, and former Ogun State Governor Aremo Olusegun Osoba, will also attend.

Leaders of Nigeria’s media associations and heads of key agencies under the Ministry of Information and National Orientation are expected to attend, including NPAN President Dame Cecelia Ibru, Nigerian Guild of Editors President Eze Anaba, Guild of Corporate Online Publishers President Danlami Nmodu, Nigerian Union of Journalists President Comrade Alhassan Yahya Abdul, National Orientation Agency (NOA) DG Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, Voice of Nigeria (VON) DG Mallam Jubrin Baba Ndace, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) DG Dr. Mohammed Bulama, Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) DG Comrade Salihu Abdulhamid Dembos, and News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) MD Alhaji Ali M. Ali. Other notable attendees include former SGF Information Director Haruna Imrana and former Presidential Spokesman Mallam Garba Shehu.

Vice President Shettima will chair the conference, with Minister Idris delivering the keynote address and Scott Grifen offering a special welcome address. Professor Adeniyi will unveil IPI Nigeria’s “Book of Infamy,” while IPI Nigeria President Musikilu Mojeed coordinates a surprise honorary event.

The first paper, “Addressing Media Repression in Nigeria: Safeguarding Press Freedom and Democratic Accountability,” will be presented by Media Rights Agenda Executive Director Edetaen Ojo. Funke Egbemode will moderate, with a panel comprising Lanre Arogundade (International Press Centre), Chief Superintendent Benjamin Hundeyin (Force PR Officer), Busola Ajibola (CJID), and Idayat Hassan (CDD).

 

The second paper, “Building Sustainable Media in Nigeria: Navigating Innovation, Credibility, and Revenue Challenges,” will be delivered by Isiaq Ajibola, President/CEO of CBD MediaEdge Communications Limited and Co-Founder of Media Trust Limited. Panelists include Channels Television co-founder Olusola Momoh, LEADERSHIP editor-in-chief Azu Ishiekwene, and MacArthur Foundation director Kole Shettima, with Professor Abigail Ogwezzy-Ndisika (UNILAG) moderating.

 

Day two of the conference is reserved exclusively for IPI Nigeria members and will conclude with the induction of new members.
