Tinubu mourns the passing of IPI treasurer Hajiya Salami

Late Hajiya Salami

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed sadness over the passing of Hajiya Rafat Onyeche Salami, an accomplished journalist and recently elected Treasurer of the International Press Institute (IPI).

President Tinubu’s condolence message was contained in a statement issued Friday by his Special Adviser on Information on Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

President Tinubu lauded Hajiya Salami’s invaluable contributions to journalism in Nigeria and beyond, describing her loss as a significant blow to the media community.

Hajiya Salami served as the Secretary of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Abuja Council, where she demonstrated unwavering dedication to advancing the standards of the profession.

Her career at the Voice of Nigeria (VON) as a reporter, broadcaster, and producer was marked by her commitment to keeping the public informed on critical developmental issues.

The President also acknowledged her passionate advocacy for women’s and children’s rights, a cause she championed with a strong voice and compassionate spirit.

President Tinubu commiserated with the leadership and members of the NUJ, IPI, National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), and VON, urging them to honor her memory by continuing her impactful work.

“Hajiya Salami’s legacy as a multilingual and multitalented journalist must inspire her colleagues, friends, and family to sustain the values she stood for,” the President stated.

Her passing has drawn tributes from across the journalistic community, with many praising her dedication, professionalism, and advocacy.
