IPI Global Launches New Visual Identity

A special note to IPI members: The future of the IPI World Congress

Scott Griffen IPI Executive Director

Today, the International Press Institute (IPI) unveils a new visual identity — its most comprehensive rebranding in more than 30 years. This includes a brand-new logo, updated colour palette, and renewed website UI and UX, along with modernised typography across all programmes and platforms.

First unveiled at the closing of the 2025 IPI World Congress and Media Innovation Festival in Vienna, the refreshed look modernises our visual presence and conveys our strategic vision, while staying true to our 75-year legacy of defending press freedom and supporting independent journalism.

Rooted in the enduring values of conviction, solidarity, trust, and community, our new identity reflects the same principles that have guided the IPI global network since its founding in 1950.

As we learnt through our #IPI75 archival research project, the IPI logo has undergone many transformations throughout the past 75 years, reflecting changes in journalism and the world. From the monthly printed IPI Report (1952-2005) to books, correspondence, and conference programmes debating journalism’s biggest challenges, to the very first IPI website launched in 1998, the IPI logo has stood as a steady symbol of our commitment to our mission.

On our website, a new tagging system will help our community and partners search a vast repository of IPI content across press freedom topics and focus areas, such as media capture, media innovation, climate journalism, and more. This change — in parallel with our ongoing project to digitise IPI’s historical archive — reflects IPI’s effort to make knowledge and history of press freedom more accessible for the public good.

As we change our look across our digital and communications channels, our mission remains unchanged: to defend press freedom and support independent journalism, thereby supporting the free flow of news.

Our new visual identity is the result of a collaborative effort that began almost one year ago, drawing on deep expertise and passion across our team. We’re grateful to everyone who provided thoughtful feedback, and to the IPI Executive Board for their continued leadership throughout this process.

This result would not have been possible without our design team at Studio STOKI. We thank them for their creativity, collaboration, and commitment in shaping a visual identity that clearly expresses our values and purpose. We’re also grateful to our web developer, Žarko Jović, for his care in bringing this new visual identity to life on our website.

Our new visual identity builds on IPI’s 75-year legacy — and reflects our focus on defending the future of media freedom. The new logo, updated branding, and refreshed IPI website that we’re launching today will support our ability to engage diverse audiences, amplify our advocacy and journalism support, and strengthen the visibility of our mission in an increasingly complex digital environment.”

Scott Griffen,

IPI Executive Director
