President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Editor-in-Chief of Premium Times, Mr. Musikilu Mojeed, and other newly elected leaders of the Nigerian chapter of the International Press Institute (IPI). He urged them to champion responsible journalism and enhance democratic values in the country.
President Tinubu’s congratulatory mesage followed the re-election of Mr. Mojeed as President of IPI Nigeria.
Joining Mojeed on the leadership team are: Ahmed Shekarau of Media Trust (Secretary), Fidelis Mbah of Al Jazeera Television (Deputy President), Rafatu Salami of Voice of Nigeria (Treasurer), Yomi Adeboye of The Herald Newspaper (Assistant Secretary), and Tobi Soniyi of Arise News (Legal Adviser).
In a statement yesterday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu acknowledged the critical role the media plays in promoting access to information and safeguarding democracy.
“The new IPI Nigeria leadership has an important responsibility to ensure responsible journalism that advances our national interest, as enshrined in the constitution,” he said.
The President also called for collaboration between the media and his administration to strengthen the free flow of information and reinforce Nigeria’s democratic foundations.
The re-election of Mojeed and the selection of other media professionals to key positions are seen as a testament to their commitment to journalistic excellence and integrity.
The IPI, a global network of journalists, editors, and media executives, has been instrumental in upholding press freedom and professional standards in Nigeria and beyond.
